To start this year Andrew Self and I have devised a new bird race for the year.

It is simple.

The basic idea is that you visit your local patch six times during the year for only six hours each time and just record what birds you see.

The dates we have selected are:-

27 January
28 April
12 May
1 September
20 October
29 December

The only rules are (at present):-

1.  If you cannot make any of the dates you must pre-book which day you will be out and it must be within seven days of the original date.

2.  Observers can go out anytime during that day.

3.  The area should be of reasonable size e.g. not the whole of the Lea Valley!
