London Autumn Bird Count Day, Saturday 2nd September 2000 - David Darrell-Lambert

Hello Everyone

Just to let you all know that this Saturday is Autumn Bird Count Day.
So if you could spare a few minutes or several hours or even better the
whole day then let either me or Andrew Self know so that we have an idea
of what areas are being covered. david@ddcl.demon.co.uk and andrewself@lineone.net

As in previous years the idea is simple.  Just go out into the field,
this could be your garden or your local patch, and see what migrants you
see.  So if everyone found a Pied Flycatcher or a few Black Terns (just
like in 1998) then we would discover how many migrants could pass
through the London Area in just one day.

So once you have been out what information do we want from you?  Firstly
the site, then during what time period you were out and details of any
birds you saw.  The more information the better, esp if you have some
visible migration like a large raptor or a flock of waders then we could calculate
how long these birds took to travel across London.

What sort of species do we want information about?  Well, everything
from Willow Warblers to Common Sandpipers to Common Terns to Wheatears
nothing is too common.  So House Sparrows as well, okay they are getting
quite rare now!

Thank you for all your help
