otherwise only a few singles. No redwings seen today (couple only

goose flock of 25 - 50, swans from the 30 strong flock on the

Mon 6-11-00 KGV Res 12-3.30pm, 4 black redstarts west of north basin inc 2 adult males, 2 stonechats on the causeway, 1 green sandpiper, 12.35pm - I realised that the diver on the north basin, when it came a little nearer, was not the great northern of Friday and Saturday, but a black-throated diver - white rear flank patches showing all the time whilst the bird was just floating, and esp when diving, also in flight this area of white showed high on rear flanks, well above a line taken from the wing to the small feet, narrow bill, lack of dark 'box-like' collar on neck-sides, lack of bold pale upperpart feather fringing seen on Friday's bird - unfortunately it flew off high to the north around 12.55pm, c30 pochard, 6 goosander - Andrew Middleton

Fairlop, Essex Radde's warbler showed very well for 2 or
3 minutes down to 10ft at 9.45am after brief views at 8.45am,
within willow belt just south of the old fishermen's hut, by
small fishing lake, just east of eastern car-park, TQ460908 -
rather stocky bird, very bold pale yellow/white rear supercillium
well defined against dark borders, long rear of super tapering to
a squiggly point, thick orangey legs, rather dark fore-super and
dark below, inc undertail, upperparts rather olive, primary
emarginations well forward on closed wings - yesterday Alan Bell

and 'joke views' - Alan couldn't get any kind of decent view on
Sunday. Very elusive and very few sightings by 2pm, although AG
